Financial Fitness Foundation Helps Students
Learn Value of Higher Education

by Sharon O'Neal, AVP - National Student Loan Program

Kansas high school students have more opportunities to learn the value of postsecondary education and improve their financial management skills thanks to NSLP's generous support of the Financial Fitness Foundation (F3). F3 is a private, nonprofit foundation that teaches Kansas high school students how to make responsible financial choices for their future, including the important role postsecondary education plays in increasing their future earning power and life options.

F3 conducts free "STRIDE to Financial Fitness" seminars to teach students basic financial management concepts like budgeting, saving, investing, and the benefits of avoiding credit card debt. Students also learn what to consider when choosing a college and how to compare their financial aid options from Connie Kent, NSLP's Financial Management Director. Kent has over 13 years experience counseling students and their families about postsecondary education and financial aid, and she now directs NSLP's debt management and default prevention activities. "We support F3's mission to educate students about the value of postsecondary education and the importance of practicing good financial management. NSLP's mission is to help make higher education accessible, and we want students who borrow education loans to have the skills to repay them," says Kent.

"We're delighted with our partnership with NSLP," says Carol Rupe, F3's Executive Director. "It enhances our ability to educate students about the importance of financial fitness and the valuable role that higher education plays in enhancing their future."
