College Goal Sunday 2004

Submitted by Barbara Stapleton
Commerce Bank & Trust

The first College Goal Sunday meeting with our public relations firm was held in July to review the publicity plan, timelines and budget. We have a total of 19 sites this year: Atchison, Dodge City, Emporia, Garden City, Iola, Junction City, Lawrence, Olathe, Pittsburg, Salina, Topeka, Wichita (2), Kansas City KS (2), Kansas City MO (3) and Raytown MO. Atchison, Iola, Lawrence and Salina are all new sites for 2004 and we are very excited to assist those communities with offering College Goal Sunday to their local area. We have secured complete funding for 2004 through grants from USA Funds, Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and the Lumina Foundation. Partial funding from USA Funds and Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation is already secured for 2005.

Not only will the Guidance Counselor luncheons assist in increasing awareness within the high schools, but the strong publicity campaign via radio, newspaper and professionally printed brochures and posters will again provide a uniform emphasis on the importance of College Goal Sunday. In order to meet the needs of turnout at College Goal Sunday locations throughout the state this year (the number of attendees in February 2003 was 1,382), our volunteer particiation goal is 160 for 2004 - so don't forget to sign up early and serve as a much appreciated volunteer at our sixth annual College Goal Sunday on February 8th from 2-4pm in a city near you!
